Cupping for Musculoskeletal Injuries

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. It has become a very popular treatment to relief muscle pain and muscle tightness.  The advantage of cupping over regular massage is that you get a nice stretch on the fascia which is the taut covering over the muscles. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

Cupping is a wonderful option to improve fascial mobility and decrease muscle pain.

Rehab Guru Physical Therapy offers cupping.  Cupping does not hurt, in fact it helps loosen up the soft tissue and loosen the muscles, it increases the blood flow through tight muscles and works great with improving tissue mobiility.  For more info visit our cupping therapy page and also we'd love it if you connect with us on Facebook.

Temporomandubular Joint Pain – Also known as TMJ

What is “TMJ” ?
The temporomandibular joint is the joint that connects your jaw to your skull. When this joint is injured or damaged, it can lead to a disorder called temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome.

What Causes TMJ?
Causes of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome include injury to the teeth or jaw, misalignment of the teeth or jaw, teeth grinding, poor posture, stress, arthritis, and gum chewing. However, there are several factors that contribute to overall facial pain, this can include neck pain, sitting posture, jaw alignment, daily habits and total body posture.

How Can I Treat this condition?
Our philosophy for all treatment is to look at all possible causes and create a comprehensive plan for relief. We incorporate hands on techniques,  home stretching and patient education to treat those with facial pain.

Plantar Fasciitis – Identifying the condition, treatment options and prognosis

foot painOuch! Foot pain can be the most debilitating in every day life, since we all use our feet every day to move. Pain can affect how well we are able to work, take care of our families and so much more. Let us help relieve the pain and get you back on your feet!

What is Plantar Fasciitis?
The plantar fascia is the flat band of tissue (ligament) that connects your heel bone to your toes. It supports the arch of your foot. If you strain your plantar fascia, it gets weak, swollen, and irritated (inflamed). However there is hope! Here at Rehab Guru, we specialize in the treatment of foot conditions such as PF.

What causes Plantar Fasciitis?
There are several factors that contribute to plantar fasciitis.  Some of which are “flat feet”,  “high arches”, tight calves and poor walking mechanics.

What treatment options are best?
Physical Therapy is the perfect treatment choice for foot pain. It has a very high success rate for healing when treated properly and as early as possible.

There is an option to receive injections for the pain, but we feel that our approach gets to the root of the problem, not just treat the symptoms. Since most foot pain is often related to muscle imbalances above the foot and ankle, we take a comprehensive look at your musculature, and give a well rounded plan to treat your condition, and relieve pain long term incorporating hands on techniques, home stretching, and patient education.  Go here for more on treating plantar fasciitis.
